Reading this I remembered it's possible to go too far in either direction here. I count myself among the leading edge of CTOs implementing AI with models I trained myself from scratch to accelerate both sales and development in my MedTech business and measuring that improvement. But I have also been accused of not knowing enough SQL off the top of my head to keep pace in a conversation with my devs. You mention CTOs were delegating AI implementation, and I have to agree that sounds backwards. CTOs should be delegating the old tech and CTOs should be in the weeds with the new tech. That's why I love being a CTO, I would never delegate the brand new cool stuff where a new strategy is needed. That's where I want to be.
